As children grow, they naturally discover new things: different smells, new textures, and lots of new faces. And remember that there is no “right” time to start teaching them about parts of the face; you can begin immediately after birth. Babies are curious from day one, looking around and getting familiar with the people around them, noticing faces and expressions. For example, you can start pointing to face parts with an infant. By the time they become toddlers, learning face parts becomes possible. You just point to the parts of your face and name them, this will help small kids understand and remember.

For kids, one of their first ways of exploring the world is by noticing parts of the face and reading people’s expressions. Recognizing friendly faces helps them feel safe and calm while seeing an unfriendly face can bring up feelings of fear or anger—natural responses that help them learn what is good or bad. By around 18-19 months, most toddlers can point to at least one part of the face, and by age two, they can name various parts easily. It is often simple for kids to learn these features because they see and recognize them right away.

In this blog, we will look at fun activities and games that help kids learn about different parts of the face. 👁👃👄👂 Before starting, let’s quickly review the names of each part.

Fun Activities That Will Help Toddlers and Preschoolers to Learn Parts of the Face

It takes a few months for babies to notice key expressions. This helps them grow emotionally and mentally because they learn how to react in new situations by watching their mom’s expressions. Here are some fun games and activities to help kids learn about the parts of the face!

1) Self-Portrait Activity

For this activity, you will need a blank sheet of paper, some colors, and a mirror. Stand in front of a mirror with your child. Point to one part of your face that is like a nose for example and ask your child to point to their own. This way they will become familiar with each facial part and the next time they look into the mirror, they can point to and name each part on their own. This simple exercise enables them to become familiar with one’s features and get information about the names of facial parts.

2) Mix-and-Match Faces

This game requires you to draw or print out several face shapes, different hairstyle versions, and pairs of eyes, noses, ears, and mouths. The children will mix and match the pieces to construct different faces each time. When building each face, you must say each piece’s name to help them remember. It is a perfect learning of face parts while being creative!

3) Listen and Do

This game is always fun with children and helps them freshen their memory on parts of the face as well as hone their listening skills. Sit in front of your child and tell them you will say something and do an action, but they only do what you say, not what you do. So, if you say, “Touch your lips” they go and touch their lips or if you say, “Blink your eyes,” they blink their eyes. This is not only teaches face parts but also encourage the development of their attention skills.

4) Learning with Songs and Rhymes

Kids love singing nursery rhymes, and songs are a great way to teach face parts. You can try rhymes like “Head, Hands, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” to make learning fun and interactive. Sing the song together and have them point to each part as you sing it. This makes it more exciting and helps them remember the names of the face parts as they sing along!

5) Guess the Face Part Game

Kids love quizzes, so why not make learning to name face parts a game? Start by indicating all the different parts of their face and gently touching each part as you say its name. For example, comment, ”This is your nose” as you point to their nose. You can then ask, “Where is Mummy’s mouth?”. Then continue, “Can you show me your eyes?”. You can make it more fun also by adding a little challenge. Try asking them to name the parts on their own or quiz them about the faces of family members! This activity helps them memorize the names of the parts and enhances their listening and memory skills as well.”

6) Dress Up Game: Name the Face Parts

Want to teach the names of face parts in a fun way? Good ways to start might be with a ”Dress Up” game using items around the house, for example, socks, sunglasses, or hats, and asking them where the hat goes. They have to say ”Head” before it goes on! You can mix it up by using scarves for the neck, glasses for the eyes, and so on. This allows children to relate everyday objects with face parts making the concept quite lively and interesting to learn.

7) A Fun Rhyme to Help Kids Learn the Parts of the Face

This fun and catchy rhyme is a playful way for toddlers and preschoolers to learn the names of different face parts. Through simple lyrics and engaging rhymes, kids will easily learn new things and remember each part while having fun!

This is my face, so bright and true,

Let’s see the parts, I’ll show them to you!

My eyes are bright, they help me see,

I blink and wink, so happily!

My eyebrows sit, above my eyes,

They help me show surprise or sighs!

My nose is here, it helps me smell,

I sniff the flowers, and that’s so swell!

My lips are here, they smile so wide,

They help me talk and open wide!

My mouth is here, I laugh and speak,

I love to giggle and sometimes squeak!

My teeth are strong, they chew my food,

I eat my snacks, feeling so good!

My ears are next, I listen well,

I hear the birds and the bell’s sweet yell!

My cheeks are soft, and round and bright,

They blush when I’m happy, or in delight!

And here’s my chin, it’s nice and round,

It’s at the bottom, where it’s found!
